The Stakeholders Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State has issued a cautionary statement to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to exercise caution regarding any potential alliance with Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.

In a statement titled ‘Beware of Governor Douye Diri: He’s a Serial Betrayer’, signed by Chief Samuel Yousuo and Elder Ebigoni Gabriel, chairman and secretary of the stakeholders respectively, the forum highlighted concerns over Governor Diri’s political conduct and intentions. The statement, addressed to President Tinubu and made available to the media in Asaba, Delta State, expressed apprehensions about Diri’s purported plans to align with the APC.

The Bayelsa APC Stakeholders Forum, which convened in Asaba, underscored the need for vigilance, particularly in light of what they termed “unholy romance” between Governor Diri and aides of the President, facilitated by Chief of Staff, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila.

The forum alleged that Governor Diri was contemplating defection to the APC ahead of the 2027 general election, a move they vehemently opposed. They asserted the party’s capability to succeed independently of Diri’s involvement, should the President support their reconciliatory initiatives.

Appealing to President Tinubu’s discernment, the forum cautioned against trusting Governor Diri, citing concerns over his fidelity and political integrity. They accused Diri of abandoning leaders within his own party, asserting his lack of electoral significance and potential baggage to the APC.

The forum further alleged that Diri, who opposed President Tinubu’s interests in the 2023 presidential polls, was now collaborating with Northern PDP elements for the 2027 election, suggesting ulterior motives behind his overtures to the Presidency.

However, in response, Governor Diri’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alaibrah, refuted the accusations, dismissing them as groundless. Alaibrah highlighted the APC’s electoral defeat and questioned Diri’s incentive to defect following his reelection. He dismissed the APC’s petition at the tribunal and affirmed Diri’s popularity in the state, attributing the allegations to unknown individuals with ulterior motives.

Alaibrah’s rebuttal characterized the forum’s claims as baseless and politically motivated, suggesting internal strife within the APC ranks. He questioned the credibility of those behind the allegations and asserted Governor Diri’s steadfast commitment to serving the people of Bayelsa State.
