In a momentous step towards self-sufficiency in petroleum products, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has successfully commenced production, prompting Aliko Dangote, the President of the Dangote Group, to express heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support and visionary guidance. Dangote, addressing stakeholders in the oil and gas industry, credited Tinubu for encouraging the commencement of the refinery project, which holds the potential to eliminate Nigeria’s dependence on imported refined products.
Acknowledging the challenges overcome during the mega project, Dangote extended his gratitude to the Federal Government, its agencies, and the Nigerian populace for believing in and supporting this transformative initiative. He specifically recalled President Tinubu’s support, encouragement, and insightful advice that played a pivotal role in realizing the refinery project.
President Tinubu had previously alluded to the nation’s anticipation of the Dangote and Port Harcourt refineries starting production to alleviate hardships following the fuel subsidy removal.
Expressing gratitude to essential regulatory bodies such as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, Dangote underscored their instrumental role in the historic journey.
He stated, “I want to thank President Bola Tinubu for his support and for making our dream come true. This production, as witnessed today, would not have been possible without his visionary leadership and prompt attention to detail. His intervention at various stages cleared all impediments, thereby accelerating the actualization of the project.”
Highlighting the significance of the achievement, Dangote asserted, “This is a big day for Nigeria. We are delighted to have reached this significant milestone. This is an important achievement for our country, as it demonstrates our ability to develop and deliver large capital projects. This is a game-changer for our country, and I am very fulfilled with the actualization of this project.”
The refinery, strategically located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone in Lagos, has received six million barrels of crude oil to date. It boasts the capability to load 2,900 trucks daily at its truck-loading gantries and adheres to Euro V specifications, complying with international emission norms.
As Dangote acknowledged the vital contributions of bankers, financiers, the Lagos State Government, host communities, and dedicated staff, the successful commencement of production marks a significant leap towards transforming Nigeria’s petroleum landscape.
