Addressing 2,762 Batch B, Stream One corps members at the Ogun State NYSC Orientation Camp in Sagamu on Saturday, Brig Gen Ahmed assured the individuals that the government recognises their contributions and will reflect this in the upcoming allowance adjustment. “Once the current negotiations on the minimum wage are finalised, your allowance will definitely see an increase. The government values your service and will ensure you are not forgotten,” he stated.

In addition to the financial updates, Brig Gen Ahmed issued a stern warning regarding the use of social media during camp activities. Highlighting the recent expulsion of three corps members for violating this rule, he emphasised the importance of adhering to camp regulations. “You are not permitted to post camp activities online. We recently expelled three corps members for breaching this rule. Adhering to these guidelines is crucial for maintaining the integrity and security of the camp,” he cautioned.

Brig Gen Ahmed also congratulated the corps members for their academic achievements that qualified them for the NYSC programme, noting that many of their peers did not reach this milestone. He expressed his admiration for the military skills displayed by the parade guard and encouraged the youths to consider a career in the military, underscoring the importance of discipline and national service.

This announcement comes as a significant relief to corps members who have been grappling with financial challenges, and it reflects the government’s commitment to supporting its youth. However, the strict enforcement of social media policies highlights the balance the NYSC seeks to maintain between openness and operational security.
