Following a series of robberies in Felele, the Commissioner of Police for the Kogi State Police Command, CP Bethrand C. Onuoha, has moved to assure the community and students of the Federal University Lokoja of their safety.

CP Onuoha has deployed a Tactical Team to the area for intelligence gathering and visible policing in order to reassure the community of their safety. He has also urged the people of Felele to cooperate with the Police and other Security Agencies and provide credible information on the activities of criminal elements within the area.

The Commissioner of Police emphasized the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring adequate security of lives and property.

Students of the Federal University Lokoja have expressed concern over constant attacks, robberies, and rapes by armed gangs invading their residences almost daily.

Under the hashtag #RescueFULokoja on social media, students shared videos of robbery attacks, pleading for security intervention. They lamented the lack of peaceful sleep due to frequent attacks, robberies, and rapes by armed gangs.

According to the students, the situation has worsened due to the inactivity of the police, particularly the closure of the only police station in Felele area by 10 pm, leaving no police patrol van during robberies. They described Lokoja, the Kogi State capital where the university is located, as a free operational zone for kidnappers and armed robbers.

Adebayo Esther Ohunene, a student, expressed the students’ distress, stating, “We can’t sleep peacefully, imagine closing our windows in this hot weather and there’s no light all because we want to stay safe. And it still doesn’t guarantee our safety, and the fact that they’ll rob and still rape girls is even scarier. We need help.”
