Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has signaled a keen interest in forging a mutually beneficial partnership between the Lagos State Government and Mastercard, focusing on technology, digitalization, and innovation.

During a courtesy visit by the Management of Mastercard, led by its President for Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa, Dr. Dimitrios Dosis, at Lagos House, Marina, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of developing backend infrastructure by the Lagos State Government to support Mastercard’s investment initiatives in the state.

Sanwo-Olu articulated his administration’s commitment to integrating technology as a fundamental aspect of everyday life, highlighting the vast potential for collaborative ventures between Lagos State and Mastercard in the realm of technology.

He stated, “Part of our vision is for Lagos to become the knowledge warehouse; a city where anywhere in the world if you need anything in terms of innovation, knowledge and skills, you will come to Lagos.”

Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of nurturing the burgeoning talents of the youth population, envisioning a scenario where the energy and creativity of young people are harnessed to tackle global challenges effectively.

In a departure from conventional aid-driven approaches, the Governor underscored the need for genuine partnerships aimed at identifying problems and collectively devising solutions.

Echoing the sentiment, Dr. Dimitrios Dosis expressed Mastercard’s eagerness to collaborate with the Lagos State Government, commending the vibrant fintech ecosystem and innovation landscape in Lagos.

Dosis lauded the enthusiasm and innovation displayed by Lagos’s fintech community, affirming Mastercard’s commitment to introducing new technologies and innovations to the city.

He remarked, “We have a lot of technology that we would like to bring to this country and we want to bring some innovation to Lagos.”

As both parties seek to explore avenues for collaboration, the potential partnership holds promise for driving technological advancement and fostering innovation, positioning Lagos as a leading global hub for technology and digital innovation.
