Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, the Minister of Police Affairs, has intervened in the ongoing conflict between the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). The dispute arose after the PSC released a list of 10,000 successful applicants for constable and specialist cadre roles on June 4.

Just eleven days later, the police rejected the list, alleging the recruitment process was tainted by corruption and irregularities. According to the Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, the list included names of individuals who did not apply or participate in the recruitment exercise.

In response to the police’s rejection, the PSC’s union called for the removal of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, accusing him of misrepresenting the facts. The PSC, through its Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, challenged the NPF to provide evidence of corruption and insisted that the recruitment process adhered to all relevant laws.

Amid the escalating tensions, Bolaji Kazeem, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Police Affairs, confirmed on Friday that Minister Gaidam is actively working behind the scenes to reconcile the two organisations. “The minister is working underground to resolve the issue between the two organisations. He doesn’t want the matter to go out of hand,” Kazeem said.

The minister’s intervention is seen as crucial to preventing the situation from deteriorating further and ensuring that the integrity of the recruitment process is maintained.
