Nigeria Police arrest officers for extorting N30 million from citizen

Special Tactical Squad Operatives Apprehended; Force Vows Disciplinary Measures

Must read

The Nigeria Police Force has taken swift action against officers from the Special Tactical Squad in Abuja accused of extorting N30 million from a citizen. The arrest follows a report received via the X platform, according to Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

In a statement, Adejobi disclosed that the officers and their accomplices, who initially evaded capture during investigations, have now been apprehended and are in custody. The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered disciplinary proceedings to ensure justice is served promptly.

Emphasizing a commitment to integrity and accountability, the statement underscored the zero-tolerance stance of the Nigeria Police Force towards misconduct or corruption among its ranks. Egbetokun stressed the importance of holding accountable those who violate public trust, as their actions tarnish the reputation of the Force and undermine efforts to maintain law and order.

Transparency and accountability remain paramount for the NPF, which pledges to continue decisive action against misconduct within its ranks. The move comes after previous reports of officers abducting a businessman in Abuja and extorting N29.9 million from him in January, as reported earlier in February.
