In a ceremony held on November 24, 2023, in Abuja, President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Ike Neliaku, officially inaugurated the Nigeria Reputation Management Group (NRMG), led by the esteemed Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR. This strategic move aims to fortify Nigeria’s international image through concerted efforts.

President Neliaku, in his address, emphasized the group’s pivotal role in enhancing Nigeria’s reputation on the global stage. The 23-member assembly, carefully curated for its distinguished members, is entrusted with a multifaceted mandate, including the development of sustainable strategies, the identification of critical national assets, and wielding influence over the country’s overall reputation.

“The NRMG, born out of a commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s reputation, has a multifaceted mandate. In addition to developing sustainable strategies and operational modalities, the group is tasked with identifying critical national assets and wielding influence over Nigeria’s reputation,” stated President Neliaku.

He further disclosed that the NRMG would spearhead the reconvening of the annual “Nigeria Reputation Summit” from 2024 onwards, positioning it as a world-class flagship event under the auspices of the NIPR. Additionally, the group will play a pivotal role in recommending structures for the proposed Nigeria Reputation Trust Fund, a financial instrument dedicated to enhancing the country’s global standing.

President Neliaku underscored the group’s responsibilities, which include advising the NIPR Council on matters of national reputation, curating relevant content on Nigeria’s reputation, and executing assignments designed to attract professional, reputational, and financial value to the Institute.

The 23-member ensemble boasts influential figures such as Ambassador Zubairu Dada, former Foreign Minister of State; Yomi Badejo, President of the African Public Relations Association (APRA); and Professor Kate Omenugha, a luminary in the field who served as the Commissioner for Education in Anambra State. This assembly of distinguished individuals stands as a formidable force dedicated to elevating Nigeria’s global standing through strategic reputation management.
