In the aftermath of the Kogi State governorship election held on November 11, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Alhaji Ahmed Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the triumphant winner with 446,237 votes.
The Independent Campaign Council of the Ododo/Joel Campaign Organization extended heartfelt congratulations to Ododo, characterizing his victory as authoritative, given the substantial margin by which he secured votes, outpacing his fellow contenders.
In an official statement signed by Media Director Jacob Edi on Monday, the campaign council urged Ododo’s opponents to set aside differences and collaborate with the governor-elect for the collective progress of Kogi State. Emphasizing that the state’s interests transcend individual or sectional concerns, the council called for a united front in fostering development.
“The ICC therefore calls on Ododo’s co-contestants to join hands with the governor-elect to build the state for more progress and development, insisting that the interest of the state supersedes any sectional or individual interest,” the statement read.
Commending outgoing Governor Yahaya Bello for orchestrating a peaceful election contrary to earlier predictions, the ICC also acknowledged the orderly conduct of Kogi residents during the polls.
“The campaign council urged Ododo to swiftly unite the state, harness resources, and consolidate development gains, stating, ‘ICC urges governor-elect Alhaji Ododo to take urgent steps to unite the state, harness the abundant human and material resources in the state, and roll out his plans to develop the state to consolidate on the gains of Governor Bello,'” the statement added.
