In a significant counter-terrorism operation, the air component of Operation Whirl Punch has successfully neutralized 30 terrorists on motorcycles in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, amidst ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in the region.
According to a statement released by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the air strikes were conducted following actionable intelligence indicating the movement of the terrorist syndicate within the Kwiga-Kampamin Doka axis of Birnin Gwari.
Gabkwet emphasized that the eliminated terrorists were responsible for the recent ambush on troops at Kwanan Mutuwa, along with numerous attacks and abductions of innocent civilians in the region, highlighting the urgency and necessity of the operation.
Upon arrival at the suspected location, security forces identified a convoy of armed terrorists comprising 15 motorcycles, each carrying at least two militants. A precision strike was then executed, resulting in the successful elimination of the hostile elements.
Gabkwet further disclosed that the aftermath of the operation revealed a significant reduction in the terrorist presence in the area, underscoring the effectiveness of targeted military interventions in addressing security challenges.
The Birnin Gwari region of Kaduna has been plagued by persistent insecurity, with bandits perpetrating acts of violence and kidnapping against local residents, necessitating robust measures to restore peace and stability to the affected communities.
Meanwhile, in a parallel development, security operatives in Katsina State executed a daring rescue mission, liberating 35 kidnap victims from captivity within the Dumburu forest. The victims, abducted from Tashar Nagulle and Nahuta communities in the Batsari Local Government Area, were reunited with their families amidst expressions of relief and gratitude.
Governor Dikko Radda, commending the bravery and dedication of the security personnel involved in the rescue operation, provided financial assistance to each victim to support their reintegration into society and facilitate their recovery from the harrowing ordeal.
