The Ondo Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is poised for its governorship primary today, Thursday, as preparations intensify for the November 16 gubernatorial election in the state. With seven aspirants in contention, the party’s internal selection process promises a spirited contest, with 627 delegates tasked with choosing the gubernatorial standard-bearer.

Among the aspirants are notable figures including former deputy governor Agboola Ajayi, ex-Secretary General of the pan-Yoruba socio-political association Chief Olusola Ebiseni, former House of Representatives member Kolade Akinjo, former Commissioner for Information John Mafo, Adeolu Akinwumi, Bamidele Akingboye, and Bosun Arebuwa. Their bids for the party ticket reflect a diverse array of backgrounds and experiences within Ondo’s political landscape.

In preparation for the primary, Ondo PDP Publicity Secretary Mr. Kennedy Peretei outlined arrangements led by a seven-man committee chaired by Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Mr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo. The selection process, set to unfold at the International Culture and Events Centre (The Dome) in Akure, underscores the party’s commitment to transparency and democratic principles.

Peretei emphasized the pivotal role of the 627 delegates representing the state’s 18 Local Government Areas, whose votes will determine the party’s nominee for the upcoming election. Accreditation of delegates is slated to commence promptly at 10 am, with stringent measures in place to ensure the integrity and fairness of proceedings.

As the primary unfolds, observers anticipate a lively exchange of ideas and strategies among aspirants, each vying to articulate a compelling vision for Ondo’s future under the PDP banner. With stakes high and expectations palpable, the primary serves as a crucial milestone in shaping the party’s electoral prospects and defining the political landscape in the run-up to the gubernatorial contest.
