Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South and a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, has called for a significant shake-up in the federal cabinet. During a recent appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Ibrahim emphasized the need for President Tinubu to dismiss certain ministers facing corruption allegations.

“You have to dissolve the cabinet. You have to come up with knowledgeable people. The cabinet is too cold,” the senator asserted, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

Expressing disappointment with the current state of affairs, Ibrahim criticized the performance of some ministers, suggesting that they do not meet the country’s standards for addressing economic challenges.

“If you fail to do that, you will be carrying their burdens, and that will be terrible for our country,” he warned President Tinubu.

Earlier, Ibrahim contested the legitimacy of the primary election preceding the Ondo State governorship election, labeling it a “mega fraud.” He sought its annulment and approached the Federal High Court in Abuja to challenge the victory of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the APC candidate.

Meanwhile, Tinubu had previously warned ministers to either perform or face dismissal at a ministerial retreat, emphasizing the need for accountability and efficiency.

As Nigeria grapples with complex socio-economic challenges, including the removal of petrol subsidies and the unification of foreign exchange windows, calls for a reshuffle intensify. Tinubu is expected to receive a report on the performance status of government agencies for the first quarter of 2024.
