Seplat Energy PLC, a prominent Nigerian independent energy firm with listings on both the Nigerian Exchange and the London Stock Exchange, has secured the prestigious Indigenous Oil & Gas Company of the Year Award from the Daily Independent Newspaper.

The accolade, bestowed upon Seplat Energy at the Independent Newspaper Award Ceremony held in Lagos over the weekend, underscores the company’s notable achievements within the Nigerian oil and gas sector. Particularly highlighted was Seplat’s commitment to engaging local communities as crucial stakeholders, fostering inclusive partnership models that prioritize overall corporate well-being.

Steve Omanufeme, Managing Director and Editor-In-Chief of the Daily Independent, lauded Seplat Energy for its multifaceted contributions to the Nigerian economy, emphasizing the company’s pivotal role in supplying natural gas to the domestic market. This effort, Omanufeme noted, has significantly contributed to displacing costly and environmentally harmful oil-based power sources, which currently dominate Nigeria’s electricity sector.

Reflecting on the significance of the award, Omanufeme remarked, “Seplat Energy has demonstrated unwavering dedication to its mission of spearheading Nigeria’s energy transition, delivering accessible, affordable, and reliable energy solutions that drive both social and economic prosperity.”

The award ceremony, attended by prominent leaders from various industries, regulatory bodies, and government officials, served as a testament to Seplat Energy’s commendable efforts. Representing the company at the event were key executives including Adetaiwo Osindero, General Manager of Finance, Adebowale Eboda, Associate General Counsel Corporate & Compliance, and Stanley Opara, Manager of Corporate Communications.

In a parallel recognition, The Industry Newspaper’s 2024 Summit and Awards honored Seplat Energy as the Sustainable Energy Company of the Year. Additionally, Chioma Afe, the company’s Director of External Affairs & Social Performance, was celebrated as the 2023 Industry Pathfinder in Sustainability (Corporate). This acknowledgment underscores Seplat Energy’s steadfast commitment to responsible business practices and ethical conduct across its operations.

Expressing gratitude for the accolades, Seplat Energy extended appreciation to both publications for their dedication to developmental journalism. The company reaffirmed its commitment to leading Nigeria’s energy transition, with a steadfast focus on environmental stewardship, community engagement, and robust governance frameworks.
