Renowned American recording artist and songwriter, Maya Azucena, is set to take on the role of co-producer in the forthcoming Nigerian reality TV show, “Stars and Legends,” in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos. This exciting reality TV program aims to captivate Nigerian audiences and ignite the aspirations of emerging talents in the creative industry from across the country.
Leveraging her extensive industry experience and a genuine passion for nurturing emerging talent, Maya will play a pivotal role in shaping the contestants’ journeys as they embark on their quest for success in Nigeria’s dynamic entertainment sector.
Maya Azucena shared her perspective on the show, stating, “Stars and Legends will be more than just another talent show. It will celebrate Nigeria’s young entrepreneurs and nurture universal business skills through the arts. This will help to create an enabling environment for them to excel and reach their full potential.”
U.S. Consulate Public Affairs Officer Joe Kruzich expressed enthusiasm for Maya’s involvement in the Stars and Legends reality TV show, highlighting its role in empowering aspiring talents looking to break into the entertainment industry. Samuel Peterson, the creator and executive producer of Stars and Legends, lauded Maya as an accomplished singer, cultural ambassador, and advocate for youth empowerment. He expressed confidence in her contribution to the project, stating, “I believe Maya is an incredible performer, and, with her diverse experience in the entertainment field, she reflects my vision for Stars and Legends. I believe she will be a huge asset to our Stars and Legends team.”
Maya Azucena, whose international career has seen her tour over 40 countries and collaborate with artists from around the world, including a Grammy Award-winning collaboration with Jamaican-American musician Stephen Marley, brings a wealth of talent and experience to the project. She has also used her platform to advocate for themes of women and youth empowerment through her music.
As part of the TV show, Maya and Peterson, alongside leading Nigerian artists like renowned flutist and former President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, Dr. Tee Mac Omatshola Iseli, and celebrated singer, producer, and songwriter Cobhams Asuquo, will conduct the Stars and Legends “Becoming” Masterclass at the University of Lagos for college students. These workshops, commencing on October 6, aim to equip participants with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities needed to excel in the competitive creative industry.
