Enugu APC Candidates Urge Governor Mbah To Defect From PDP

A forum of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in last year’s Enugu State House of Assembly elections has called on Governor Peter Mbah to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the ruling party.

In a letter dated 11 August and released on Monday, the group’s coordinator, Godwin Onwusi—who contested the Udi North constituency seat—argued that playing opposition had brought “more harm than good” and that the state would benefit more from President Bola Tinubu’s programmes if Mbah switched sides.

Titled “Request/Appeal for You to Hook Enugu State to the National Grid of Politics by Joining Our Great Party, the All Progressives Congress,” the letter praised the governor’s “visionary leadership” and “unprecedented developmental strides” in under two years, claiming they were in line with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

“We have no doubt that your entrance into the APC will not only give it the strength it requires to win elections in Enugu State but also make Enugu State more friendly with the federal government, with its attendant benefits,” the letter read.

The appeal marks the latest attempt to lure Mbah from the PDP. In June, the governor denied speculation of a defection, telling the Nigerian Guild of Editors in Enugu, “I am still in the PDP, as you can see, the flag behind me is that of the PDP.”
