Fayemi to Tinubu: Don’t depend on Villa for feedback

Former Ekiti State Governor Advocates for Genuine Feedback Mechanism Beyond Presidential Villa Walls

Must read

The former governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, called on President Bola Tinubu to seek feedback beyond the confines of the presidential villa to gain accurate insights into his administration’s performance. Speaking at the public presentation of a book titled ‘APC and Transition Politics,’ Fayemi emphasized the importance of unfiltered information from party leaders to guide national governance.

Fayemi stressed the difficulty for leaders to grasp the true sentiments of citizens when surrounded by praise singers and encouraged Tinubu to rely on genuine feedback from communities and constituencies. He recommended the book as essential reading for party members, especially at various organizational levels, to initiate the rebuilding process of the party.

The event, which featured the book written by Mallam Salihu Lukman, a former National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the APC, attracted political luminaries, including former APC national chairmen Adams Oshiomhole and Chief Bisi Akande, current APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru, and others.

Fayemi acknowledged Lukman’s role as a misunderstood party member and praised him for acting as the conscience of the party. He recounted Lukman’s history of criticism and radicalism, emphasizing the necessity of such figures on progressive platforms.

Despite Lukman’s occasional criticism of party members, Fayemi highlighted his dedication to party building rather than personal aggrandizement. The former governor explained how Lukman’s commitment to the party led to his resignation as the Director General of the Progressives Governors Forum after facing opposition from some governors.

In response, Lukman expressed gratitude for the overwhelming participation at the book launch, emphasizing the need for party leaders to discuss its contents and incorporate them into the party’s structure. He commended the party for its future clarity and urged members to provide critical support to leaders for the party’s revival.
