Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe Bans Cryptocurrency Mining During Work Hours

The Federal Teaching Hospital in Gombe has issued a strict directive prohibiting its staff from engaging in cryptocurrency mining during working hours. A copy of the circular, seen by our correspondent on Friday, underscores the rising popularity of cryptocurrency trading, which has become a pervasive trend across age groups. The circular specifically mentions platforms like “Not Coin, Dawg,” a Telegram-based mining opportunity reportedly bringing significant financial returns to Nigerians.

Tela’s warning is clear: “I am directed to caution all members of staff to desist from mining and all forms of related crypto trading activities while working.” The crackdown follows a wave of complaints from patients and their families, who have expressed concerns over staff members being distracted by crypto trading, thus neglecting their professional duties.

The circular further outlined potential disciplinary actions: “Management will not hesitate to take drastic measures in line with the Public Service Rule against any staff caught engaging in such activities during work hours.” To ensure compliance, the hospital has deployed monitoring teams, including SERVICOM, ACTU, and security personnel.

Staff members have been urged to refocus their efforts on their core responsibilities, with Tela calling for greater diligence and seriousness at the workplace.
