The governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the state pensions board with immediate effect, directing the office of the state accountant general to assume its responsibilities until a new board is appointed.
The decision was announced in a brief statement issued in Port Harcourt on Friday by the head of service, Dr. Inyingi Brown. No reason was given for the dissolution.
Board members were instructed to surrender all assets and properties in their possession to the board’s director of administration.
“The executive governor will in due course constitute a new board to manage the affairs of pensions,” the statement read.
The move marks Fubara’s first significant directive since his reinstatement by President Bola Tinubu on 18 September, following a protracted political crisis in Rivers.
