The Kano State government has sanctioned a substantial N29,064,181,673.65 for the initiation and completion of numerous capital projects aimed at bolstering social and physical development across the state. These approvals were ratified during the State Executive Council meeting, presided over by Governor Abba Yusuf at the Council Chambers, Government House, Kano, on Tuesday.
A statement from Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, Director General of Media and Publicity at Government House, confirmed the council’s decisions on Thursday. The approved funding encompasses a wide range of interventions, including agriculture, infrastructure, and the settlement of backlog allowances.
The council allocated N7,761,681,223.22 for the 5km dualised road projects across the 44 Local Government Areas. This amount, representing a 10 per cent rescue intervention, will be jointly funded through the state and local governments’ joint account on a 30:70 basis.
Additionally, N239,536,859.21 was approved for the construction of three rural roads at Ja’en Makera-Salanta Gudduba-Unguwar Baizangon Guliya and Fagoje-Kwanar Zuwo in Gwale, Ajingi, and Kiru/Madobi LGAs.
The statement further revealed an allocation of N7,123,750,000 for the procurement of 500 relief transformers to be distributed across various communities in the state.
In support of 2024 constituency projects, the council approved N6,400,000,000. Moreover, N343,363,068.78 was allocated for constructing a two-coat surface-dressed road from Kwanar Gammawa in Gezawa LGA.
Other approvals included N819,500,000 for procuring 20 Toyota Hilux vehicles and one Toyota bus for State Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The council also sanctioned N5,345,343,190.98 for rural road construction and agricultural marketing project counterpart funds.
The council further approved N26,405,447.92 for renovating and converting offices for the Chairman of the Anti-Phone Snatching Task Force Committee at Coronation Hall, Government House. Repairs to a failed section of asphaltic surfacing at Kofar Nassarawa’s Tower premises received N29,619,918.23.
Additionally, a 30 per cent counterpart fund amounting to N354,766,992.59 for constructing and rehabilitating 12 rural roads across the 44 LGAs was approved. Expansion of works on crash barriers and street curbs, along with their painting, was granted N248,786,369.72. Finally, the payment of harmonised allowances for 2,803 casual staff at the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board was approved at N130,460,000.00
