Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu embarks on strategic visit to China to complete Blue, Red Line services

In a significant stride towards realizing his commitment to a comprehensive transportation system, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, embarked on a crucial visit to Beijing, the capital of China, on Tuesday.

The focal point of the governor’s trip is a series of trade and investment discussions with top officials of the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), a prominent player in infrastructure development. Governor Sanwo-Olu aims to explore collaborative opportunities and glean insights into innovative multimodal transport solutions.

During his stay in China, the Governor will conduct inspections at the headquarters of CCECC, delving into the intricacies of ongoing projects in and around Beijing. Specifically, he is scheduled to scrutinize the Signaling System (CBTC, etc.) and Metro projects executed by CCECC.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s itinerary extends to Dalian later in the week, where he will visit the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation headquarters and CRRC Lvshun base. This phase of the trip is designed for a high-level official meeting with the Head of China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation, CRRC Dalian. Technical discussions on rolling stock procurement for the Red Line and Blue Line projects will be a focal point during these interactions, involving stakeholders such as the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), CCECC, and CRRC Dalian.

The Governor is accompanied by a delegation comprising the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Seun Osiyemi; Chairman, House Committee on Transportation, Hon. Temitope Adewale; Chairman, House Committee on Environment parastatals, Hon. Rasheed Shabi; Managing Director of LAMATA, Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo; and Director, Rail Transport, Mr. Olasunkanmi Okusaga, among other officials.

The strategic visit aims to harness global expertise and forge partnerships that will contribute to the enhancement of Lagos State’s transportation infrastructure. Governor Sanwo-Olu and the accompanying delegation are expected to return to Lagos next week, armed with valuable insights and potential collaborations to elevate the state’s transport landscape.
