Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment embarks on nationwide manufacturing tour

The Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, has embarked on a comprehensive tour of prominent manufacturing companies across Nigeria, showcasing the federal government’s dedication to fostering growth, innovation, and sustainability within the sector.

Commencing on Monday, January 8, and scheduled until Thursday, January 11, the tour included visits to leading companies such as Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc, BUA Sugar Refinery Ltd, Flour Mills Limited, Bestaf Ltd, Golden Sugar Company, and the Coca Cola Hellenic Bottling Company (CHBN).

Starting the tour at Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc, Dr. Uzoka-Anite addressed crucial issues such as sugar pricing, assuring the public that there would be no increase, especially during the Ramadan period. She emphasized the government’s commitment to stable sugar prices and expressed optimism about creating a sustainable and flourishing sugar industry.

The minister pledged full support from the federal government and announced potential collaborations between the National Sugar Development Council and the Industrial Training Fund. She highlighted plans for employment generation, enhanced skills development, and collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation to reduce importation and promote international standards.

Dr. Uzoka-Anite disclosed plans for extensive staff training, the introduction of improved seed varieties from the Sugar Institute in Ilorin, Kwara State, and a skills acquisition collaboration with the Industrial Training Fund.

Emphasizing the President Bola Tinubu administration’s dedication to job creation, the minister assured manufacturers of her commitment to assess all sugar refineries’ status. She underscored that low performance in the sugar master plan would no longer be tolerated, reiterating the government’s focus on improving food security and supporting the agricultural sector.

Concluding the tour on the first day, the team visited the Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company (CHBN), where they received a comprehensive tour of the facility. Goran Sladic, the Country General Manager, highlighted the company’s substantial investment in supply chain infrastructure and unveiled plans for a youth empowerment program.

Sladic expressed optimism about achieving more through collaboration with the government, emphasizing that the series of visits underscores the Federal Government’s dedication to working with the private sector, fostering economic development, and creating a conducive environment for sustainable growth within the manufacturing sector.
