Late Thursday night, the Lagos State Police Command officially confirmed the arrest of Balogun Eletu, widely known as Sam Larry, a prominent figure in Lagos social circles. The arrest is linked to the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
Details have emerged on the arrest, with a police source revealing that Sam Larry was apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Thursday evening. The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, “Sam Larry was arrested at the airport after he arrived from Kenya. Our officers arrested him at the airport, and he was immediately taken to the state police headquarters for questioning.”
Sam Larry’s name had gained prominence amid the growing demand for justice in Mohbad’s death. The arrest coincided with an announcement by Mohbad’s former music label boss, Azeez Fashola, aka Naira Marley, revealing his intention to return to Nigeria, provided his safety could be guaranteed.
Last week, the police confirmed the completion of the autopsy conducted on Mohbad, with the results eagerly awaited. This development followed the exhumation of Mohbad’s corpse by a combined team of the Nigeria Police Force and health officials. The nurse who administered an injection to the deceased singer before his demise on September 12 was also arrested by the police in connection with the case.
