In a statement issued on Friday and signed by its director of voter education and publicity, Victoria Etta-Messi, the commission said the figure reflects a mix of online pre-registrations and in-person completions at designated centres nationwide.

According to INEC, 2,259,288 Nigerians completed their registration through the online portal, while 1,489,416 finalised the process physically. The commission, however, cautioned that the figures remain provisional and subject to verification.

The exercise forms part of preparations for Nigeria’s 2027 general election, with the electoral body pointing to sustained public participation during the registration window.

“With the conclusion of the registration phase, INEC has now shifted focus to the display of the Register of Voters for Claims and Objections,” the statement said, describing the next stage as critical to ensuring the accuracy and credibility of the voter roll.

The display exercise is scheduled to run nationwide from 29 April to 5 May 2026, during which citizens will be able to verify their details and raise objections where necessary.

INEC urged all registrants to take part in the process, particularly in identifying ineligible entries such as duplicate registrations, deceased persons and non-citizens.

The commission noted that the CVR exercise has been conducted in phases, with the first phase running from 18 August to 19 December 2025, and the second phase spanning 5 January to 17 April 2026. Details of a third phase, it added, will be announced in due course.

Reaffirming its commitment to credible elections, INEC said maintaining a clean and reliable voter register remains central to the conduct of free, fair and transparent polls.
