In the wake of a brutal attack resulting in the tragic death of Customs Assistant II Auwal Haruna at the Gamji Makaho checkpoint in Katsina State on April 17, 2024, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) vehemently denounces such acts of violence against its officers and personnel.

The Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, extends heartfelt condolences to the family and colleagues of CA II Auwal Haruna, emphasizing the NCS’s unwavering commitment to apprehending the perpetrators and ensuring they face the full consequences of the law. CGC Adeniyi underscores the NCS’s determination to collaborate with other security agencies in pursuit of justice for the fallen officer.

“Violence against our officers is utterly unacceptable, and we will pursue every avenue to bring those responsible to justice,” declares the CGC. “The safety of our personnel and the security of our borders remain paramount. We are committed to working with traditional rulers, government bodies, and sister agencies to combat this heinous crime against our personnel.”

Under the leadership of CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the NCS reiterates its steadfast commitment to combating smuggling and other cross-border crimes. The Service remains steadfast in its mission to uphold the law and safeguard the interests of the Nigerian people.

Intelligence gathered by the NCS suggests that certain individuals within communities may be harboring suspected accomplices involved in the attack. The NCS urges these individuals to prioritize patriotism by aligning with the law and refraining from abetting illegal activities. Collaboration with law enforcement agencies is essential in rooting out criminal elements and ensuring justice prevails.

The NCS calls upon the public to unite in the fight against these audacious criminals. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities of smugglers to the nearest customs formation. Through collective efforts, a safer environment for officers and a more secure nation for all can be achieved.
