The Nigerian Army is set to conduct a comprehensive review of its counter-terrorism and insurgency operations nationwide, aiming to optimize its effectiveness in addressing security challenges across the country.
In a statement released on Friday by the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, it was revealed that the forthcoming first quarter conference of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, will serve as a platform for this strategic assessment. Scheduled to take place from April 15 to 19, the conference will convene key stakeholders to deliberate on critical issues shaping the Nigerian Army’s operational landscape.
The conference will offer participants the opportunity to evaluate the performance of Nigerian Army operations, training initiatives, and other activities undertaken in fulfillment of its constitutional mandate during the first quarter of the year. Additionally, targets and projections for the subsequent quarter will be unveiled, providing a roadmap for future operations.
Maj. Gen. Onyema emphasized that the conference will serve as a forum for making significant decisions aimed at bolstering the efficiency of the Nigerian Army. Attendees will include Principal Staff Officers of the Army Headquarters, Corps, Formations, and Field Commanders, as well as Commandants of NA Schools and Tri-Service Institutions, alongside selected NA Officers serving in key deployments.
The significance of such strategic reviews cannot be overstated, especially given the prevailing security challenges facing Nigeria. By engaging in rigorous evaluation and planning exercises, the Nigerian Army aims to enhance its capacity to safeguard the nation’s territorial integrity and protect its citizens from threats posed by terrorism and insurgency.
The conference holds particular importance against the backdrop of President Bola Tinubu’s recent attendance at the Chief of Army Staff conference held in Maiduguri in December 2023. At that event, President Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to bolstering national security efforts, underscoring the government’s unwavering determination to confront security threats head-on.
