NNPC Warns Seplat Maintenance Will Cut Gas Supplies, Raising Risk Of Temporary Power Shortfalls In Nigeria

Nigeria’s state-owned oil company, NNPC, has warned of a temporary reduction in gas supply to parts of the country’s power sector as Seplat Energy Plc begins routine maintenance on key gas production facilities.

In a notice signed by the chief corporate communications officer of NNPC Ltd, Andy Odeh, the company said Seplat – a joint venture partner and a major supplier into the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Limited (NGIC) pipeline network – will carry out scheduled maintenance from 12 to 15 February 2026.

The maintenance, NNPC said, is part of standard safety and asset integrity procedures aimed at ensuring the reliability and safe operation of gas infrastructure, as well as reducing the likelihood of unexpected system failures.

However, the company confirmed that the four-day exercise will lead to a temporary reduction in gas supply into the NGIC pipeline network, potentially affecting power generation companies dependent on the system.

“As a result, some power generation companies reliant on this supply may experience reduced gas availability, which could modestly impact electricity generation levels within the timeframe,” the statement said.

NNPC said it is working closely with Seplat to ensure the maintenance is completed safely and on schedule, while NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML) is engaging alternative suppliers to minimise disruption and stabilise the network.

The company said full gas supply is expected to resume immediately after the maintenance work is completed, allowing affected power plants to return to normal operations.

Further updates will be provided as necessary, NNPC added.
