Oborevwori Rallies APC Faithful To Deliver 390,000 Votes For Tinubu In Uncontested Presidential Primary

The governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has thrown his weight behind a nationwide primary exercise designed to affirm Bola Tinubu as the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, urging party members across the state to turn out in overwhelming numbers and warning that political organisations that neglect internal discipline are destined to fracture.

Sheriff Oborevwori, who has been appointed coordinator of the presidential primary in Delta State, made the appeal on Friday during a visit to Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, a founding figure of the APC in the state, at his country home in Evwreni, Ughelli North. The call to arms came ahead of the Saturday primary, which is being held across Nigeria simultaneously.

Oborevwori expressed confidence that Delta’s APC structure — which he said now counts more than 470,000 registered members — could deliver at least 390,000 affirmation votes for the president. Drawing a pointed comparison with his own recent affirmation as the party’s governorship candidate, in which he received more than 345,000 votes, he argued that Tinubu, as national party leader, was entitled to an even stronger show of support.

“You affirmed me as sole governorship candidate with over 345,000 votes,” he said. “This one is for Mr President and he deserves more because he is the leader of the party.”

The governor used the occasion to deliver a broader message about the importance of hierarchy and order within political structures, in remarks that carried an implicit rebuke for those tempted toward dissent. “A political party without discipline, without respect for leadership and without regard for authority cannot move forward,” he said, adding that sustainable political success could only be built on collective responsibility and adherence to established structures.

Emerhor, who chairs the APC Ughelli North Leaders Council, received the governor warmly and praised what he described as Oborevwori’s humility toward party elders — a quality he suggested was rare and valuable in Nigerian political life. “We have fought for this party for years and we thank God for his coming to provide leadership and direction,” he said, pledging that APC faithful in the state would work to deliver strong numbers for the president.

The primary is uncontested. Tinubu is the sole candidate, and the exercise is widely understood as a show of organisational strength and loyalty rather than a genuine electoral contest — a ritual affirmation of the incumbent’s hold on the party machinery ahead of the 2027 general election.
