Ondo governor denies certificate forgery allegations amid APC screening

Lucky Aiyedatiwa Becomes First Aspirant Cleared for Ondo APC Governorship Primary

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has vehemently refuted allegations of certificate forgery levelled against him, asserting the authenticity of his credentials during his screening by the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

Aiyedatiwa, who purchased the APC’s N50 million governorship nomination forms, emerged as the inaugural aspirant to be cleared by the party’s screening committee, slated for April 20.

The governor’s eligibility had been challenged by fellow aspirants, precipitating a contentious dispute surrounding the legitimacy of his academic qualifications. Notably, legal practitioner Oladotun Hassan petitioned law enforcement authorities, alleging a plot to manipulate the ongoing investigation into Aiyedatiwa’s educational certificates.

Addressing journalists at the APC national secretariat post-screening, Aiyedatiwa rebuffed the allegations, stating, “My certificates are genuine and authentic.” He attributed the controversy to political adversaries aiming to undermine his candidacy, emphasizing the resolution of the credential dispute following rigorous scrutiny by the screening committee.

In an effort to contextualize his educational background, Aiyedatiwa referenced the government’s intervention in merging schools during the tenure of former Lagos Governor Lateef Jakande, underscoring the establishment of Ikosi High School where he purportedly studied.

However, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, another aspirant, derided Aiyedatiwa’s candidacy, brandishing his academic certificates to the press during the screening. Ibrahim dismissed Aiyedatiwa’s achievements and alleged reliance on Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s legacy, vowing to secure victory in the APC primary.

Meanwhile, Governor Aiyedatiwa proceeded with the inauguration of 12 newly appointed commissioners in the state, urging diligence and commitment to their respective portfolios. The appointments, subject to scrutiny and approval by the state House of Assembly, underscored Aiyedatiwa’s administrative agenda amidst the political turbulence preceding the gubernatorial election.
