In the midst of political turbulence and an attempted impeachment of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are set to engage in a crucial meeting with former Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The move follows a series of events that unfolded on Monday when 24 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings, triggering protests by the governor’s loyalists at the assembly complex.
The PDP Governors’ Forum, headed by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, expressed appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the unfolding political crisis. In a communiqué released after their meeting at the Oyo State Lodge in Abuja, the forum announced plans for a visit to Nyesom Wike’s residence, emphasizing the purpose as reconciliation and mediation.
In a statement issued by the Director-General of the forum, Cyril Maduabum, it was disclosed that the decision to visit Wike was reached during the Tuesday meeting. The governors are expected to gather at Governor Bala Mohammed’s residence before accompanying him to Nyesom Wike’s office in the Federal Capital Territory for the reconciliation talks, scheduled for 11 a.m.
