Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has described Nigeria’s independence as a historic milestone that liberated the nation from colonial rule and paved the way for self-determination, socio-economic growth, and political development.
In a goodwill message issued by his media aide, Mukhtar Gidado, on Tuesday, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the governor congratulated the people of Bauchi State and Nigerians across the country.
He urged citizens to reflect on whether the noble ideals of the nation’s founding fathers had been fully realized after 65 years of self-rule.
“Though our development trajectory may not equal that of some countries that gained independence at the same time, especially the Asian Tigers, Nigeria has recorded remarkable progress in self-governance, managing diversity, and uniting for nation-building,” he stated.
Governor Mohammed acknowledged that years of military rule slowed democratic growth but expressed satisfaction that, after 26 years of uninterrupted democracy, Nigerians are beginning to enjoy the dividends of good governance.
