In a decisive move, Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has dissolved the 17 Local Government Transition Implementation Committee Chairmen, marking the end of their tenure effective 6th September 2024. The dissolution, announced in a statement on Friday night, concludes the extended leadership terms that began in June 2023.

Initially appointed for a six-month term, the committees’ mandates had been extended several times, with the governor now signalling a new phase for Plateau’s local governance. In his statement, signed by Director of Press and Public Affairs Dr Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang directed the Directors of Personnel Management in the 17 local government areas to take over administrative duties until the next elections, scheduled for 9th October 2024.

“Governor Mutfwang commended the Transition Committee Chairmen for their exemplary leadership and dedication to advancing developmental projects that have directly impacted their communities,” the statement read. The governor lauded their achievements and urged the former chairmen to continue providing valuable guidance to promote unity within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Plateau State as a whole.

Mutfwang further encouraged the outgoing chairmen to work closely with their communities to ensure a successful outcome for the PDP in the upcoming local government elections. He also expressed his gratitude to the people of Plateau State for their steadfast support, noting that the party primaries for chairmanship and councillorship positions underscored the strong bond between the PDP and the state’s electorate.

The governor reiterated his commitment to an inclusive, transparent, and accountable administration that prioritises the interests of all citizens, as Plateau heads toward a pivotal local government election cycle.
