In a bid to assuage mounting concerns over Nigeria’s economic challenges, President Bola Tinubu called for patience from citizens during a visit to Akure, Ondo State, on Wednesday, reassuring them that brighter days lie ahead.

Acknowledging the hardships faced by Nigerians due to government policies, Tinubu assumed full responsibility for the difficulties, emphasizing that criticism is welcomed as he had willingly accepted the mantle of leadership.

Tinubu’s remarks, made during visits to the pan-Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere and the family of the late former Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, come amidst public outcry over the removal of fuel subsidies and other economic reforms.

While addressing concerns over his administration’s policies, Tinubu underscored Nigeria’s resilience in overcoming current economic challenges, asserting, “Nigeria will survive.” He expressed his determination to steer the nation towards prosperity, affirming his commitment to meeting international obligations and fostering fiscal discipline.

Highlighting the need for true federalism and equitable governance, Tinubu emphasized the importance of shared sacrifice and perseverance. He recounted his journey to leadership, citing his enduring commitment to Nigeria’s progress despite adversity.

In response, Afenifere lauded Tinubu’s dedication to national advancement, urging him to uphold fairness, courage, and institutional reforms. The group called for greater state autonomy and urged governors to prioritize grassroots development in light of the subsidy removal’s financial windfall.

Tinubu also paid tribute to the late Rotimi Akeredolu, praising his statesmanship and contributions to Ondo State. The president’s visit symbolized solidarity with the family and recognition of Akeredolu’s legacy.

Amidst economic turbulence and public scrutiny, Tinubu’s appeal for patience and commitment to reform encapsulates a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s socio-political landscape, underscoring the complexities and challenges faced on the road to national renewal.
