The impeachment move, launched last Thursday by a majority of lawmakers aligned with the minister of the federal capital territory, Nyesom Wike, is anchored on allegations of misconduct. Although the speaker of the assembly, Martin Amaewhule, had said the impeachment letter would be delivered to the governor, sources at Government House said on Monday evening that no such communication had been received.

A senior official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said neither the governor nor his deputy had reviewed any notice from the assembly. The source added that Fubara only returned from an overseas trip on Sunday, attended Armed Forces Remembrance Day church services and has since been engaged with official duties, including inspections of ongoing projects across the state.

As the standoff continued, signs of dissent emerged within the pro-Wike bloc. Two lawmakers publicly distanced themselves from the impeachment effort on Monday, urging colleagues to suspend the process and seek alternative ways to resolve the crisis.

At a press conference in Port Harcourt, the minority leader of the house, Sylvanus Nwankwo, who represents Omuma constituency, appealed for restraint, citing interventions from elders and political leaders
