Savannah Energy’s Accugas grants full university scholarships to 50 students in Akwa Ibom State

Accugas Limited, the midstream subsidiary of Savannah Energy PLC, has awarded full university education scholarships to 50 students from Akwa Ibom State through its Savannah Energy Education and Internship Training (“SEE-IT”) programme. The scholarships cover tuition, accommodation, textbooks, and living costs for the duration of the beneficiaries’ university education in Nigeria.

The SEE-IT programme, a joint initiative between Accugas and the Inoyo Toro Foundation, aims to enhance access to quality education in Akwa Ibom State. The selected students underwent a rigorous screening process led by university professors and were honored during the SEE-IT 2023 Annual Teachers/Scholarship Awards held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

In addition to the student scholarships, the programme recognized and awarded 19 secondary school teachers, three principals, and five mentors for their positive impact on pupils in Akwa Ibom State public secondary schools. The awards covered key subjects, including biology, chemistry, English, mathematics, and physics.

Pade Durotoye, Managing Director of Savannah, Nigeria, expressed pride in the company’s commitment to education as a vital aspect of their sustainability strategy. He highlighted the significance of investing in young people, considering them one of the country’s greatest future resources. The partnership with the Inoyo Toro Foundation is seen as a collaborative effort to support society in delivering excellence in education.

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, represented by Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet, Honourable Commissioner for Education, commended the annual event as a pivotal reference in public-private partnership arrangements in the state’s education sector. He urged other individuals and organizations to emulate Savannah Energy’s laudable gesture by investing in the education of children, the future representatives of the state and the country.
