The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, emphasized the need for a collective change in attitude, especially in terms of patriotism, to drive national development. Speaking at the 4th National Colloquium aimed at deepening Nigeria’s development, organized by Zayyanu Tambari Yabo and held at the Sokoto Guest Inn, the Sultan urged Nigerians to prioritize the interests of the nation over regional affiliations.
Represented by the District Head of the Gagi community in Sokoto, Alhaji Sani Jabbi, the Sultan highlighted the role of patriotism in overcoming developmental challenges. He also attributed the slow pace of development to the country’s large but unproductive population.
Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, reiterated the state government’s commitment to implementing the outcomes of the colloquium as they relate to Sokoto. The governor, represented by the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Col. Ahmed Usman (retd), assured the organizers that the state would actively utilize the insights gathered.
Dr. Chima Amadi, the keynote presenter, delved into the complexities of Nigeria’s economic development in his presentation titled ‘Nigeria: In search of an effective economic formula for national development.’ Analyzing past economic policies, he highlighted factors contributing to the country’s disappointing development, stressing the importance of learning from comparable nations in Africa and Asia for more effective growth strategies.
