Tinubu Hails Surge In Nigeria’s Stock Market, Credits Reforms For Investor Confidence

President Bola Tinubu has praised what he called the “remarkable growth” of Nigeria’s capital market under his administration, attributing the surge in trading volumes and market capitalisation to renewed investor confidence in his economic reforms.

Speaking in Brazil on Tuesday during a meeting with the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Dr. Emomotimi Agama, and the board of the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), Tinubu said the performance of the exchange was evidence that his policies were working.

“Nigeria’s markets must be a trusted engine of enterprise and prosperity. My government will continue to pursue reforms that unlock capital, protect investors, and drive innovation so that our economy works for every Nigerian,” the president declared, according to a statement from his adviser, Bayo Onanuga.

The visit came after Tinubu signed into law the Investment and Securities Act (ISA) 2025, which SEC chief Agama described as “one of Africa’s most comprehensive legal frameworks for capital markets.” He projected that the new law could propel the market toward a ₦300tn valuation.

NGX Group chairman, Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga, said trading volumes and valuations had “nearly tripled” since Tinubu assumed office, while urging the fast-tracking of listings of state-owned enterprises such as NNPC Limited. He also invited the president to the NGX trading floor in Lagos.

Temi Popoola, NGX Group’s chief executive, alongside board member Nonso Okpala, credited the reforms with boosting exchange rate stability, innovation, and investor sentiment.

Tinubu, reaffirming his Renewed Hope Agenda, pledged to continue supporting the market with additional reforms to strengthen Nigeria’s financial ecosystem.
