President Bola Tinubu has taken decisive action, indefinitely suspending the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Rural Electrification Agency, Ahmad Salihijo, alongside three executive directors, following revelations of financial irregularities uncovered during a comprehensive investigation.

The State House disclosed this development in a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, titled ‘President Tinubu Suspends Rural Electrification Agency Managing Director and Team from Office.’

In addition to Salihijo, those suspended include Olaniyi Netufo, Executive Director of Corporate Services; Barka Sajou, Executive Director of Technical Services; and Sa’adatu Balgore, Executive Director of the Rural Electrification Fund.

Tinubu’s directive also entails a broader investigation into alleged fraudulent mis-expenditure totaling over N1.2 billion over the past two years, with some funds already recovered by anti-graft agencies, Ngelale revealed.

Consequently, the President has appointed a new interim management team to oversee the affairs of the agency with immediate effect. The newly appointed officials include Abba Aliyu as Managing Director/CEO, Ayoade Gboyega as Executive Director of Corporate Services, Umar Umar as Executive Director of Technical Services, Doris Uboh as Executive Director of the Rural Electrification Fund, and Olufemi Akinyelure as Head of the Project Management Unit for the Nigeria Electrification Project.

The statement concluded with a firm reminder of the President’s commitment to transparency and accountability, emphasizing the imperative for all appointees in his administration to uphold the highest standards in service delivery. Tinubu reaffirmed his dedication to meeting the aspirations of Nigerians for good governance, prioritizing the public interest above individual agendas within the realm of public service.
