A federal lawmaker from Lagos has declared that President Bola Tinubu’s second term in office is “guaranteed,” urging critics to abandon any plans of challenging him in the 2027 general election.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum in Agege on Monday, Wale Ahmed, who represents the constituency in the House of Representatives, argued that Tinubu had earned a renewed mandate through what he called courageous reforms and international diplomacy.
Ahmed drew comparisons with former president Muhammadu Buhari, saying: “Late President Muhammadu Buhari, from the North, served two terms, so Tinubu should also have his second term. By God’s grace, his second term is assured. I will mobilise my constituents to ensure Tinubu is returned for another term.”
His remarks come as opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, African Democratic Congress and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, vow to form a united front to unseat Tinubu in 2027. Former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, ex-Labour Party candidate Peter Obi and ADC coalition leaders have been among the administration’s fiercest critics.
Ahmed defended Tinubu’s controversial removal of fuel subsidies, describing it as a tough but necessary step that had boosted foreign reserves to $40bn, attracted investment and reduced inflation. He also pointed to government-backed student loans and major infrastructure projects – such as the Lagos–Calabar coastal highway and the Abuja–Kano dual carriageway – as evidence of progress.
“Tinubu’s foreign trips are yielding Nigeria respect abroad,” he said, adding that the long-delayed Sokoto–Badagry expressway was now being revived under the current administration.
The lawmaker also listed his own constituency projects, from boreholes and streetlights to scholarships and empowerment schemes, while local council leaders and traditional rulers at the meeting praised his efforts.
