US Embassy Warns Nigerians Of Permanent Visa Bans Over Fraud

The United States embassy in Abuja has issued a stark warning to Nigerians about the consequences of visa fraud, cautioning that falsifying information or submitting forged documents could lead to permanent bans from entering the US.

In a post shared on X on Monday, the embassy said visa fraud was treated as a grave offence under American immigration law. “Visa fraud has serious consequences,” the statement read. “Lying or providing fake documents can lead to permanent visa bans under US immigration law. This means you will never go.”

The advisory was issued on the same day the US ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, met with Nigeria’s foreign minister, Yusuf Tuggar, in Abuja. According to the embassy, the meeting focused on areas of bilateral cooperation, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to continued engagement. “The United States looks forward to continuing to work together with Nigeria on issues of mutual concern,” the embassy said.

The renewed diplomatic exchanges come against the backdrop of growing international attention on Nigeria’s internal security challenges. In recent months, some US lawmakers have raised concerns about persistent attacks on communities, particularly in the north and the Middle Belt, describing them as serious violations of religious freedom.

Those lawmakers have urged closer collaboration between Washington and Abuja, calling for stronger measures to protect vulnerable populations and address the underlying causes of violence across the country.
