Senator Douye Diri, the Governor of Bayelsa State, expressed satisfaction with the significant progress made on the Akaba-Okodi road, a crucial link between Yenagoa and Ogbia local government area, during an inspection tour on Monday.

Addressing journalists during the tour, Senator Diri emphasized the importance of personally assessing the road project’s status to gauge the level of work accomplished.

“I came to see things for myself to ascertain the work that has been done so far. I was here last year before the November 11 governorship election and I can see the difference between then and now. So much has been achieved,” the governor stated.

Senator Diri underscored his administration’s commitment to prioritizing development without regard to political affiliations, highlighting the significance of the road in connecting communities across local government areas.

“This road links Ayakoro, which happens to be the community of the NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku. So, it shows that we are not playing politics with development of our state and our people,” Senator Diri emphasized.

Asserting his understanding of the challenges faced by the people, the governor dismissed unfounded criticisms leveled against his administration, emphasizing a dedication to improving the welfare of Bayelsans.

“I have a deep knowledge of what our people have gone through, and I do not think that under me, having known all of that, will begin to play stupid and unreasonable politics and allow our people to continue to suffer. We want to end the suffering of our people to the best of our ability,” he declared.

Engr. Bolaji Animashaun, the Project Manager of the construction company Emrock Concept, provided insights into the project, indicating that the 10km road is slated for completion in April 2025.

Senator Diri’s inspection of the Akaba-Okodi road underscores a proactive approach to infrastructure development, signaling a commitment to enhancing connectivity and fostering socio-economic growth across Bayelsa State.
