In a significant turn of events, the Court of Appeal in Lagos has overturned the decision of the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Umuahia, Abia State. In September 2023, the tribunal nullified the election of Amobi Ogah from the Labour Party, favoring the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Nkiriuka Onyejiocha. Ogah, however, swiftly contested this ruling in the Court of Appeal.
The appellate court, in a Friday verdict, reinstated Ogah’s election victory, representing the Isikwuato Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State. This legal reversal marks a notable development in the electoral landscape, underscoring the dynamic nature of Nigerian politics and the role of the judiciary in shaping its course.
