MTN To Compensate Subscribers After NCC’s Directive On Service Failures

MTN Nigeria has said it will compensate affected subscribers following a directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), as the company moves to reassure customers over recent service shortfalls.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the operator said the compensation would cover users in impacted areas during November, December and January, in line with regulatory guidelines. The move, it noted, reflects the regulator’s emphasis on placing consumers at the centre of industry decision-making.

The company framed the directive as consistent with its “customer-first” approach, acknowledging that reliable and high-quality connectivity remains a core expectation for millions of Nigerians increasingly dependent on digital services.

While committing to the compensation process, MTN said its broader focus is on preventing a repeat of the outages. It outlined an intensified capital expenditure programme aimed at strengthening network performance, including accelerated upgrades to next-generation infrastructure to meet rising demand for voice and data.

The firm also pledged to improve network resilience, citing efforts to shield critical systems from environmental pressures and disruptions linked to third-party infrastructure. Collaboration with tower companies, it added, would be central to ensuring that mast facilities meet the standards required for more consistent service delivery.

Despite the challenges, many of which it described as external to its direct control, MTN said it would continue to work closely with regulators, infrastructure partners and law enforcement agencies. The goal, it added, is to sustain long-term investment capable of supporting Nigeria’s expanding digital economy.
