Nigeria’s military has said more than 30 insurgents were killed in a joint air and ground assault in Borno State, in the latest push against militants in the country’s north-east.

The operation, conducted on Friday in Dar-El-Jamal village in Bama local government area, followed reports of an attack on security forces, according to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the force’s spokesperson, said surveillance and interdiction aircraft were quickly deployed after ground troops called for support. “In a series of three precise and successive strikes, the fleeing terrorists were decisively engaged, resulting in the neutralisation of over 30 insurgents,” he said.

Reinforcement units later secured the area, Ejodame added, describing the operation as proof of “seamless synergy” between air and ground forces. The military has long faced criticism over coordination failures in its campaign against Boko Haram and splinter groups.

The north-east has endured more than a decade of violence, with jihadist attacks killing tens of thousands and displacing millions. The military says it has intensified counterterrorism operations under Operation Hadin Kai, aimed at dismantling insurgent networks and protecting vulnerable communities.

Ejodame said the NAF, working alongside the army and other security agencies, would continue to mount “deliberate and collaborative actions” to restore peace.
