Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has called for the resumption and acceleration of the review process for the Abuja master plan. Speaking at a meeting with a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Abuja, Wike emphasized the importance of expediting the project to ensure its completion by 2026.
JICA was tasked with reviewing the Abuja master plan in 2019, and Mr. Wike commended the agency’s efforts thus far. He stressed the significance of the master plan review for the ongoing development of the FCT, highlighting its importance to the administration’s goals.
Expressing appreciation for JICA’s commitment to urban development projects, Wike affirmed the FCT Administration’s readiness to collaborate fully in achieving the objectives outlined in the master plan. He lauded JICA for its track record of delivering on promises and expressed confidence in the agency’s capacity to contribute further to the development of the FCT.
“We are happy that JICA is not one of those international organizations that come to make promises without fulfilling them,” Wike remarked. “I do not doubt your capacity, and I am confident that you will continue to do more for us. This administration is willing to cooperate with you to achieve more for our people.”
The call for accelerated action on the review of the Abuja master plan underscores the government’s commitment to sustainable urban development and underscores the importance of international collaboration in achieving these objectives.
