In pursuit of securing the musical legacy of the late artist Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad, the House of Representatives summoned the provocative singer Azeez Fashola, better known as Naira Marley, on Thursday.

The House Committee on Justice, Youth, and Legislative Compliance extended invitations to both Naira Marley and Mohbad’s manager, Jiggy Adeoye, scheduling their appearance for October 31. Mohbad, a former signee under Naira Marley’s record label, passed away under controversial circumstances on September 12, 2023, prompting the Lagos State Government to launch a coroner’s inquest into the 27-year-old singer’s death.

The parliamentary decision to summon Naira Marley and delve into the intricacies of Mohbad’s musical rights stemmed from a motion put forward by Babajimi Benson, the representative for Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Lagos State. Benson underscored the imperative to revisit the laws governing the entertainment industry, advocating for a robust framework to protect artists’ copyrights and royalties.
