Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has addressed the ongoing political turbulence in the state, attributing it to competing interests over the control of state resources. Speaking at the 51st birthday celebration of Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries Worldwide, Fubara reaffirmed his dedication to using Rivers’ resources in the interest of its people and called for continued prayers to keep his administration focused.
“The crisis is about control over the resources of Rivers State,” Fubara stated during the gathering at the church’s headquarters in Mbodo, Aluu. “These resources belong to the people, and we are committed to using them wisely for the state’s benefit.” The governor appealed to the congregation to support his administration through prayer, describing governance as a challenging endeavour susceptible to derailment by “the devil at work.”
In his address, Fubara also lauded Apostle Chinyere for his significant philanthropic contributions, particularly in educational initiatives aimed at equipping young people with vocational skills. “Life is not just about taking; it’s about giving. And for all you’re doing for humanity, may God continue to strengthen you,” he said, applauding the cleric’s commitment to social empowerment and charity.
To further support the church’s infrastructure projects, Fubara announced a ₦200 million donation. “This church has played a significant role in our journey, and it’s a privilege to support your efforts,” he said, highlighting a new facility for Omega Power Ministries’ television station as a key project underway.
Fubara also noted the urgent need to rebuild Rivers State’s education system, which he described as “a dead system we are trying to revive,” while commending the church’s work in providing quality technical training. “What you are doing here is remarkable. While government schools struggle, you are giving hope through private efforts. Why won’t God bless you?” he said.
Joining Fubara in her commendations, Patience Jonathan, former First Lady of Nigeria, praised Apostle Chinyere for his dedication to uplifting the community. She described him as “a beacon of hope, strength, and spiritual guidance,” and urged other faith leaders to continue praying for Rivers State’s peace and stability.
In response, Apostle Chinyere outlined his dedication to fostering educational opportunities for girls, highlighting his recently established All Girls’ Technical College as part of an effort to combat social issues like prostitution. “We set up this school to empower the girl child and help them avoid situations that lead to exploitation,” he explained. Chinyere added that many young women feel compelled to engage in survival activities, particularly in cities like Port Harcourt, where economic hardship is common.
Governor Fubara concluded by reiterating his gratitude to the church and its congregation, asserting that with their prayers, his administration would overcome the state’s current challenges. “Power has injected power into you, and I need more power for the progress and defence of humanity in Rivers State. I assure you—we will not fail.”
