The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State, Sadiq Achida, has launched a blistering attack on former governor Aminu Tambuwal, dismissing him as “politically retired” and claiming he has no independent base of support.
In an interview with journalists on Monday, Achida alleged that Tambuwal’s rise was owed entirely to the influence of political godfathers, particularly Senator Aliyu Wamakko, and that his career was now at a dead end.
“No Abuja alliance, no media propaganda, no recycled coalition can revive a politician whose only legacy is propaganda and a collapsed state,” he said.
Tambuwal, a senior figure in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, has been linked to a coalition with the African Democratic Congress aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu’s administration and unseating Sokoto’s APC governor, Ahmed Aliyu.
But Achida dismissed the former governor’s eight-year tenure as one of “stagnation, abandoned projects and asset stripping,” and accused him of refusing to formally hand over to his successor in 2023 to avoid accountability for incomplete projects.
“Tambuwal’s actions were calculated to frustrate the present administration,” he claimed, while praising Aliyu for “prudent financial management” and for paying salaries promptly, implementing the new minimum wage, and funding major infrastructure “all without borrowing”.
A close aide to Tambuwal, who asked not to be named, described the accusations as baseless and said a formal response would be issued after consultations with the former governor.
